Besharam Rang Controversy Yielded 800 Crores To Pathaan

Shahrukh Khan's much awaited film Pathaan got released on 25th January 2022. Amid a lot of controversies and uproar against this film, it has collected more 600 crore rupees worldwide. Yashraj banners' Pathaan has an estimated budget of 250 crore INR. It has been a massive hit not only for Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone who were waiting for a big hit also for Yash Raj films. After low collections by Shamshera and Jayeshbhai Jordaar and others, Yashraj films were also longing for a massive hit.

After the huge success of 'Tiger Zinda hai', this is another edition of spy films by Yash Raj films. This film has Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone as leads and also features John Abraham as the main villain. Film also brings small cameo roles to Hritik Roshan and Salman Khan which was a surprise element for viewers. The pair of Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone is again on the film screen after the film 'Happy New Year' in 2014.

 

What is the controversy about?

The film Pathaan has a song 'Besharam rang' featuring Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan. The song not only has bold moves but also inappropriate for Indian cinema lovers as per protesting groups. People started trolling this song since its beginning for various reasons. One group also highlighted that Deepika has worn saffron or bhagwa color and sang the song besharam rang which ultimately demonstrates that saffron is a shameless color. That's why this song is being criticized for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. Bajrang Dal and VHP(Vishwa Hindu Parishad) have shown their anger by tearing the posters of films and demanding to ban the film. Even people have complained to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to put a complete ban on the song due to immense vulgarity as well as for humiliation of sentiments of people.

Videos of Bajrang Dal tearing posters of the film went viral on social media. Supporters of the film called this all publicity stunt and 'timepass of unemployed youth'.

Whatever might be the reason, the truth is that the film Pathan has crossed 500 Crore in India and got the tag of 'big hit'. Many shows have been registered housefull. As per the latest reports, total worldwide collection of Pathan has crossed 800 crore. Now the film is inching upwards to touch 1000 crore.

Controversy has spread about the film and fans have loved watching the film. Film has a high IMDb rating of 6.7/10.

In the song, steps performed by Deepika Padukone have been claimed to be objectionable and lecherous for Indian cinema. People even demanded the censor board to censor these steps of the song.

Despite such disturbing controversies, the song recorded 289M views on YouTube. It is still among the top trending videos on YouTube.

The boycott brigade which has been very active since the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Netizens have run a campaign to boycott Bollywood. Under the hashtag of boycott Bollywood, many Bollywood films faced the repercussions of people's rage.

 

Reaction from political world 

Even the politicians have not lagged behind in jumping into controversy with their own sensational comments.

Even PM Modi during a speech gave a message to people who are interested in the film and its song. The PM said that- ".. we work hard day and night then some of us make needless comments about films… we should refrain ourselves from making unnecessary controversial comments".

Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra showed his contempt about the saffron piece of clothing in the song which denotes Hinduism. He also expressed disapproval over Deepika Padukone and said that she was standing with tukde tukde gang during her promotions and it shouldn't be forgotten. He claimed the song to be created with a perverted mindset.

All Indian Hindu Mahasabha's National President Swami Chakrapani made outrageous comments on the censor board. Swami Chakrapani tweeted that why the censor board is sleeping, this film should be banned. He had also threatened to protest against the film.

BJP's famous leader Shehzad Poonawala also added fuel to fire indirectly by saying that he only prefers reality based films and has watched The Kashmir Files.

People also rebuked Shah Rukh Khan for his remarks on 'intolerance' in India. People also remember Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan in a drug case.

 

About the film

The plot of the film is about an Indian spy Pathaan who is on the mission to save the Indian President who is at the target of a Pakistani terrorist group. Film has many action and chasing sequences which have been appreciated by the audience.

We can say that the controversy about the film has given a huge hike in collections of the movie. Amidst so much uproar against the star cast and song, film Pathaan collected 57 Crore rupees on its first day in India. Actually the controversy worked in favor of the film and enhanced curiosity in the minds of people about the film.
