Trump And Netanyahu Unveil 20-Point Gaza Plan To End War

U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have jointly presented a sweeping 20-point plan aimed at ending the ongoing Gaza war, nearly two years after it began. The proposal combines an immediate ceasefire with long-term reconstruction, while placing international oversight at the heart of Gaza’s future.

The Core Proposal

The plan demands a 72-hour halt in fighting, during which Hamas must release all Israeli hostages — both living and deceased. In exchange, Israel would begin a phased withdrawal of its forces and release about 1,950 Palestinian prisoners, including some serving life terms.

A central feature of the plan is the creation of a “Board of Peace”, chaired by Trump and involving international figures such as former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair. This board would supervise a technocratic interim administration in Gaza, excluding Hamas from political authority.

Trump has given Hamas three to four days to accept the terms, warning of “a very sad end” if the offer is rejected. Netanyahu has backed the plan, saying Israel is ready to continue military action if Hamas refuses.

Reconstruction and Aid

Beyond security arrangements, the proposal calls for an internationally funded reconstruction effort. Plans include a special economic zone, infrastructure rebuilding, and humanitarian aid distribution under neutral supervision. Trump described it as “the opportunity for Gaza to become a model of peace and prosperity.”

Historical Context

The war began in October 2023, following Hamas’s cross-border attacks that killed around 1,200 Israelis and led to the abduction of more than 200 hostages. Israel’s retaliatory campaign has since devastated Gaza, leaving tens of thousands dead and most of the enclave’s 2.2 million residents displaced or in need of aid, according to UN figures (source).

Repeated ceasefire attempts — including short truces in late 2023 and early 2024 — collapsed due to renewed fighting, failed negotiations, and disagreements over prisoner exchanges. The current proposal represents the most detailed U.S.–Israeli framework since the start of the war.

Key Challenges Ahead

While ambitious, the plan faces immediate obstacles:

Hamas’s role: The demand that the group fully disarm and relinquish governance is likely unacceptable to its leadership.

Palestinian sovereignty: Critics argue the framework sidelines wider Palestinian political aspirations, focusing narrowly on Gaza.

Implementation risks: Even if a ceasefire is agreed, ensuring disarmament, securing aid flows, and building a credible interim authority will require intense international coordination.

Regional and Global Stakes

Neighboring countries such as Egypt and Qatar, which have mediated past truces, are expected to play crucial roles in relaying and possibly enforcing the agreement. International donors, including Gulf states and European partners, would need to bankroll reconstruction efforts running into the billions of dollars.

The Road Ahead

The next few days will be decisive. If Hamas accepts the deal, Gaza could see the first sustained pause in fighting since the conflict erupted. If not, Israel has signaled it will intensify its campaign, leaving the enclave braced for further devastation.
