Jhulan Goswami Who Also Known As 'Chakda Express' Goodbye To Cricket

Jhulan Goswami or you can call her the great Jhulan Nishit Goswami, she joined cricket at the time when people were not really excited about the Indian women's cricket team. With excellent batting style from the right hand and being right arm and fast paced medium bowling  made her a spectacular sports personality. She has always been admired by all her fans and now when she has announced her retirement from cricket, it has confused her die-hard fans whether they should cherish her achievements or feel sad that she will not be witnessed in her blue jersey on ground of cricket.

Jhulan on record board -

Her bowling career has been the main focus of cricket lovers, she has 252 wickets in 201 ODIs. Her way of taking 56 wickets in 68 T20 international matches has stolen heart of her opponents also. Jhulan has 44 test wickets in her account in just 12 matches.

She played in 12 test matches in which she batted 291 runs with an average of 24.2. Similarly in ODIs, she has played 201 matches and has scored 1228 runs at an average of 14.8. In T20 matches, she has played 68 matches and made 405 runs with an average of 10.9.

Achievements of Chakda Express -

Jhulan Goswami received felicitations from all over India when she broke the record of Australian cricketer Catherine Fitzpatrick. She broke the record in 2017 by taking the 181st wicket of her career in one day internationals in women's cricket. Everyone was surprised at this achievement of Jhulan Goswami and it was called a 'special achievement' by many. She has 271 wickets in international cricket in 23 matches which is a commendable journey for a cricketer.

 

Jhulan Goswami was honored with the prestigious Arjun award in 2010. She also got Padma Shri in 2012.

 

Beginning of a flourishing career-

Jhulhan was born on 25 November 1982 in Chakdaha of West Bengal in India, that's why her nicknames are also 'Chakdaha express' and 'Babul'. She started taking cricket as a career option seriously at the age of 15. She used to be a football fan before that. After realizing her fascination towards cricket, she moved to Kolkata. With a stunning personality of 5 feet 11 inch, she entered the Indian national women's cricket team in 2002. Her very first match was an ODI match in Chennai in which India played against England. She played her first test match in the same year against England in Lucknow. After this, the golden era of Indian cricket emerged as Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj started taking the Indian women's cricket team to new heights day by day. She was given the responsibility of vice-captain of the team in 2006 when India was on England's tour. India won the test series there and Jhulan's contribution in this victory was recognised. Her batting partnership with Mithali Raj in 2002 against England for 214 runs is still a memorable moment for cricket fans.

 

Year 2017 proved to be a significant year for Jhulan Goswami as it awarded her the title of 'ICC women's cricketer of the year'. After this achievement, there was no turning back for Jhulan Goswami. Next year, in 2008 she got the captaincy of Indian women's cricket team which she managed well for 3 years. This was also the year in which completed her 100 wickets in ODIs. She has 1593 runs with three half centuries in international cricket. Another milestone of taking 200 wickets in 2018 in 166 matches declared her a successful cricketer in Women's Cricket.

 

One of the most memorable performances of Jhulan Goswami was in the 2017 final match of women's cricket World Cup. India won hearts of millions but was defeated by England in the match and missed the chance to win the World Cup. Yes, this was a disappointing moment for India but very soon, Jhulan gave reason to her fans to smile by completing the mark of 300 wickets in women's cricket in 2018 while playing against Sri Lanka.

 

Farewell to Jhulan -

'Chakda Xpress' will be released on Netflix very soon. It is Jhulan's biopic. In the film, Anushka Sharma will be playing the role of Jhulan Goswami. This will be directed by Prosit Roy and fans are eagerly waiting for this film.

Jhulan Goswami started her career against England and now she is announcing retirement by playing her last match on the historical ground of Lord's on September 24 against England. Captain of Indian cricket team Harmanpreet Kaur and other teammates wish to give a happy farewell to such a huge sports' personality by winning this series. She had taken retirement from T20 international cricket in 2018 but kept playing in other formats. But now, the time has come for Jhulan Goswami to bid a farewell to all forms of cricket.

Indian Women's Cricket team along with cricket fans all over the world will surely feel her absence in upcoming matches.
